This question is referring to whether or not you have been married until December 31st of the tax year that you are filing for. If you got married in the current year, your marital status is single for the tax year that you are filing for.
It doesn't matter if you were married in the US or in your home country.
If you have been married but then got divorced by December 31st you can answer 'No' for this question.
