How can I E-file my tax return?

In order to see the E-Filing option for 2023 if you have already finished the Sprintax process, you would have to go back to Step 1 Residency and pass through the steps again by clicking NEXT as you’d be asked a couple more additional questions during your process.

Keep in mind that the E-Filing is applicable for your Federal tax return only.

Limitations to E-Filing – you will NOT be able to E-File your federal return if any of the following applies to you:

  1. If you have an ITIN
  2. Any names and SSN do not coincide with the information provided at step About you
  3. Any of the payment documents does not have a EIN
  4. Any of the W-2 forms does not have a control number
  5. Any of the 1042-S forms does not have an unique code identifier
  6. Any of the income you earned is allocated as earned outside the USA
  7. You have capital gains income
  8. You have form 1099-NEC
  9. You have form 1099-MISC with box 4 higher than 0
  10. You have included one of the following documents – Final payslip, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT or 1099-B
  11. Self-employment income

After the information is entered on Sprintax, it will be then validated by the software and depending on the points above, you might be allowed to E-File. After additional information is entered, another validation will be made and if all info is correct, the file will be sent to the IRS. After the IRS reviews the information, they will return status. If the AGI or PIN entered do not match their records, they will reject it. Other reasons for rejected applications may include mismatch in the information validation on their end. If this happens, the taxpayer is advised to mail their tax return. The IRS will make a cross check of all information that includes:

  • Names, Date of Birth, nationality and SSN of the taxpayer
  • Names, address and EIN of any employer
  • Names, address and EIN of any other payer of income
  • Control number of the forms 1042-S and W-2

If any mismatch is found or any of the information is entered incorrectly, the IRS might reject the application and the taxpayer will be required to send it on paper.
