What documents/information do I need to prepare Form 8283? Will Sprintax prepare it for me?

To complete Form 8283 you should get and keep an acknowledgment - a written statement for your contribution from the qualified charitable organization. The acknowledgment must be obtained before you file your return and should contain the following information:

- The name and address of the charitable organization;

- The date and location of the charitable event;

- A reasonably detailed description of the charity, including the cost or other basis of the donation, the approximate date and how you got the property;

- The fair market value of the property at the contribution day, and copy of the signed appraisal, if applicable;

- Statement whether the qualified organization gave you any goods or services as a result of your contribution;

Please advised that form 8283 is only needed if you donated items. If you donated money - cash, check or via bank transfer, you do not need to file this form.
