I’m a nonresident, why did I receive a resident state tax return?

The state residency is not the same as the federal residency. Even if you are a nonresident for federal tax purposes, you may be a resident for state tax purposes.

Sprintax correctly determines your residency status based on the information provided in your account. In case you consider that the residency status on your state return is incorrect please go back to Step 6 - State taxes and double-check the information you have entered there.

In case you correct certain information you should click NEXT until the end of the process otherwise the return will not be updated with the correct information.

In case your State tax return is manually prepared, once you edit your details and click NEXT until the end, please let our Customer Support team know either via chat or email as we will not be updated that anything was edited in your account after we prepare your State tax return.
