Your personal situation may not be exactly the same as your friend’s situation, or your friend may have completed the steps differently so the system generated a different return.
Please be aware that even if you both worked in the same state, for the same employer etc., that does not mean that every single thing would be the same on both' tax return. There are many factors such as the length of stay in the US, visa type, country of residence and country of citizenship to be considered for the final calculations.
